Harvey C. Charistie was 27 years old when he enlisted as a private in the 115th New York on 12 August 1862. He enlisted at Mayfield, New York, but his residence was not listed. On 26 August 1862 he was mustered into 'E' Company. He was taken prisoner with the rest of the regiment on 15 September 1862 at Harper's Ferry, Virginia, and paroled the following day. He was promoted to sergeant on 1 February 1863, and on 1 March 1863 to commissary sergeant and transferred to regimental field and staff. Sergeant Charistie died in hospital on 2 August 1863, in South Carolina.
