Born 21 October 1844, Charles Remond Douglass was a single, 19-year-old printer from Rochester, New York, when he enlisted in Company F on 18 April 1863. However, due to lung problems, he never took the field with the regiment. He left the regiment on 19 March 1864 to become a 1st Sergeant in the 5th Massachusetts Cavalry. Ill most of the time he was in the service, he was discharged from the army in 15 September 1864. He later held jobs as a clerk in various goverment departments and the Freeman's Bureau.
